Jeanette has two blogs, following my bliss to showcase her beautiful photos, which she posts to less often than I'd like to see. :) (hint hint, post more! now.) And crunchy on the inside, to showcase her words, which are magical and sublime, and will make you want to add both blogs to your reader or feedburner. You can also peek at more work on her flickr.
As I read through, and looked at her images, I find myself smirking. Here is this shockingly talented woman who has a sidebar of "who she wants to be when she grows up" listing many other talented photographers whom she admires. Hate to break it to you Jeanette, but you are as good as or better than quite a few of them. And, you seem so insightful and sagacious... let it out through your camera more often and *bam* you will be there.

Angela Calderon is someone I have "known" online for about 3-4 years. Angela's personality and her photos are so bubbly, colorful and polychromatic that she would cheer up any dark cloudy day! The thing I've always loved about her work is it looks like she is just having so much fun when she is shooting, and that lightheartedness comes through loud and clear in her connections with her subjects. Too bad she lives on the other side of the country from me (I'm in Minneapolis, MN--she is in Los Angeles, CA...) as I'm sure we would be fast friends and have a blast together. Angela's blog is worth checking out--you will love her chatty conversational tone as well as the great photos it showcases. Her main site is here.

There is a lot to see on this lovely blog: Nichol Krupp. Great words, great photos (love the twins!) and she seems like a great woman. I got a little lost reading through it all, and enjoyed myself immensely! (And that doesn't happen often, I'm a good skim-reader! LOL)

Adore the quote she posted from Marianne Williamson, on March 30 (scroll a little) ~so true and so poignant. Also, a bit below that, a wonderful read by Niki on "Art & Accidents".... I bet if you emailed her and asked really really nice, she would be willing to allow you to share her fab insights with your own clients... I know you are going to love the modern crisp look and photos on Char's blog: Wink P hoto . I added her to my list of blogs to check out months ago, and finally got to her today and am so glad I did! She has an especially lovely way with lighting the small ones she photographs, and since I've got another baby session myself tomorrow~ her blog is a great inspiration! I'd advise getting a cup of coffee and setting aside a little chunk of time for viewing the work from my next post ~National Geographic's Photo Camp.

The Premise: (from their website, not my words)

National Geographic Photo Camp is a series of photography workshops for youth from underserved communities both in and outside the United States. In partnership with local newspapers and community organizations, Photo Camp inspires young people to explore their communities through the camera's lens, and to share their vision through public presentations and exhibitions across the United States and throughout the world.
You can view a short video about each of the five featured galleries (New Orleans, Washington, DC, New York city, Erie, PA, and a refugee camp in Uganda) from the link above. There are also photo galleries from "Photo Camps" from Homestead, FL, San Francisco, Little Haiti in Miami, and Oaxaca Mexico. You will see some absolutely amazing work, touching, moving and poignant work. What an amazing project.

Ok, I'm finally back. I really try to post every few days or so, but got behind with proofing sessions, and then when my brother had a medical emergency and ended up in the hospital, that kind of sapped my energy with worrying. Thanks for your patience, I am back!

And here is a lovely blog for you to enjoy: Kristin Eldridge in San Francisco. Love her blog header and logo, her clean fresh photography, beautiful! Make sure you look back a bit in her blog, past just the front page. She has some really lovely work to enjoy, and her site has some really splendid photography work on it. Up today is Tara Whitney's Blog. (edited to add: I had the link typed wrong, so please refresh if you are getting to a blogspot wrong page. Tara's blog is www.tarawhitney.typepad.com thanks for the catch melanie!) Tara lives down in sunny and beautiful Orange County, CA. I enjoyed her outdoor photos tremendously, as we are still stuck in suspended winter here in MN (see my blog for a snow photo from yesterday if you like...) Tara's main website appears to be undergoing a facelift or some work at the moment, but I expect it will be back up soon, and you can see it here.
The photos on Tara's blog exhibit an exuberance and sparkle that I really admire. I am particularly drawn to her family shoots. They have a relaxed and comfortable quality that I see so many photographers strive for and miss. Its a true talent to make a family feel at ease and laid-back while you are also working to get great photos. I have a feeling that Tara is as un-pretentious as she appears in her blog, photos of her, and her writings. Hope you enjoy her work too.

Ok, at the moment (early Saturday morning) Kim McCormick is my favorite person. Her blog was submitted recently, and I finally (thankfully, gratefully!) read it this morning. First thing I liked was the couple of shots of marvelous macro work at the top of her blog. Beautiful!
But then, I scrolled down to read her Cats & Dogs post, and my husband and I were both in tears we laughed so hard. Now I realize she did not write the Diary she shared, but for sharing it alone, she is my favorite person. Thanks Kim, I really needed that! :) Truly one of the funniest things I have ever read, and if you find out the writer, please let me know so I can share their name!
Ok, so--once you wipe the tears of laughter from your eyes, make sure you move on down to take a peek at her photography. Love the birthday party shots too. I also love the live feed of who visits the blog. I am stealing that widget idea! ;)
I will say (I know its the slower season..) it would be lovely to see Kim update her blog more frequently. David photos are sparkling and effervescent... just full of such fun! The color images are some of the best I've seen (not over done, just bright and bubbly!) and he has several different b&w conversions that really show lots of different moods. Love his wide angle fish eye shots too, and love the most recent posts on the blog with the larger images with the black frame, they showcase his work beautifully!

Oleksandr Havrylyuk is a photographer who works out of Vancouver WA and Portland, OR. His blog features primarily wedding images, with an occasional portrait of his own children or an engagement session. I especially loved this photo on page 2 of his blog:

I really like the layout of his blog, nice large images to really showcase his work.

His main website is, hands down, one of the most enjoyable sites I've come across in a long time. Everything works. The photography is stunning, intimate and remarkable, the flash site is seamless and timed just perfectly, the music fits, all around great. I have a burning desire to reach for my red pen and edit the english, but it does add to the charm. :) (edited to add... I mean *no disrespect* by this... he seems like a lovely wonderful guy and doing great with his English in comparison to how long he has been in America!)

Okay, so its not a "photography blog" but its something that every photographer should know about. Its a wonderful review site for photography vendors, created by Susan Robichaud. Anyone who has been near a photography board in the past year knows that *everyone* (and their mothers, lol) is selling something: actions, presets, templates, workshops, jewelry, magazines, you name it. And everyone knows that on certain boards, you are never going to get an honest and unbiased opinion about said products.
In steps the Reviews of Photography Vendors site...its brilliant in that it allows reviews to be posted about any vendor who is selling to photographers: handbags, jewelry, seminars, etc. Some have criticized the process for allowing Anonymous reviews, but Susan really watches IP's and all to make sure they are not coming from the same person, and we all know if you criticize a *superstar* on some boards, you will get attacked, so the option of anonymous reviews is key, in my humble opinion. Kudos to the great job and valuable service you are providing Susan, and thanks from someone whom you saved some cash from being wasted on lousy merchandise!

Kevin's Blog just feels like a breath of fresh air. I've looked at so many blogs lately (and thats why it takes longer between posts...burnout) and they are All. Starting. To. Look. The. Same. (to me.)

Ok, first off I have to tell you I live in Minneapolis, MN. We have cold cold winters, a few days ago the temperature was about -15F, heat wave right now with a whopping 32 degrees... Add the windchill in and by February, I'm so over winter. So, I'm loving this blog from sunny warm Mexico: Elizabeth Medina. The beach sessions have me crying in my margarita snuggled up with my space heater here. :)

I've always answered back with a *sure will!* I feel strongly that karma is real, that what goes around comes around. Also, there is a nice, large market here in our area, and plenty of work for all of us, right? So, here goes my second local one: Jana Kunz. I've had the pleasure of meeting Jana in person at a local photographer meet-up, and she is truly a lovely person as well as a talented photographer and great graphic designer. I stumbled across this blog: Caught on Film Photography, by Pamela and Shawn Richter in San Diego/La Jolla, CA. They have lots of great beach shots and senior work, with neat blends/collages, etc if you need some inspiration there. But what I really love is this article they wrote about why custom photography is so "expensive". I'd add to it that we also have the joy of paying taxes, insurance and equipment costs, but its a good read and worth sharing. :)

I know there are many photographers who have heard pieces of Sheye's story. Well, really of Ava's story. Superprincess Ava. Who has touched so many across the world. If you don't know about it... go here to read about Ava's rule and share the postcard with others you know.

I have not visited her blog in a long time. But as I read it this morning, I was again in tears. Sheye and her husband have an indomitable spirit and they continue to amaze me with their strength. Lynsey Stone does some really neat birth photography (often home-births) in Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas. I've always thought it would be such a neat sub-specialty to work with a midwife practice and photograph home births. Her photos are very tasteful and subdued, not showing any of the actual birth, so if you are a squeamish person, don't be worried to look! ;) What a truly amazing thing to do, capture the first moments, the first breaths! I love how the music fits the mood of each different gallery... they are so inspiring and beautiful.

Jackie is a photographer in Sydney, Australia. Her blog is just a rich visual heaven of texture and light and shadow. I saw a movie a few weeks back with my children; The Water Horse. I stumbled across Sarah in a classic case of digital drifting... following one post to one blog to one flickr account to another blog, and so on and so on. ;) I'm not the only one who does this, right?

Sarah seems to do a ton of weddings and engagement sessions, and she works out of Sacramento, CA primarily. I hope this doesn't sound snarky at all, but the thing that I love about her work, is that so many of her clients are average looking, but she does a great job of flattering them and really making beautiful images. We all know its a bit easier to photograph the beautiful people of the world, right? Sarah rocks at that, but even tougher, she makes all the "regular people" look great too! #27...Finding Joy (Joy Kaminski)

I love the title of Joy's photography website: Finding Joy Photography. I know its a play on her name, Joy Kaminski, but I expect it has a triple meaning. It seems like perhaps she set out to find joy: by that I mean, happiness, the joy in life, and to capture that joy beautifully, and instead has found herself: found Joy. I love that Joy is not afraid to try out lots of different post processing techniques to give her images so many different looks. She has some really amazing vintage photos and I love the warmth of them.

I hear a bit of accusatory banter from time to time on photography forums about "copying" other's styles (not in regards to Joy, just in general) and really, hasn't it all been done before?It has, its all been done before. (Now I'll have the Barenaked Ladies song "It's all been done before" in my head all day, and so will you!)

Our challenge as artists, as photographers, is to keep trying new things, keep it fresh, and keep finding joy in doing so.

I think it is kind of funny... in general, it is much easier to be verbose about the things we do not like. (Hence all the complaint calls restaurant managers get, and so few compliments...LOL)

If I let the mean and unkind side of me come out, I'd be able to write a seriously sarcastic and snarky blog about all the bad photography that is out there. It's much harder, I'm finding, to write about what it is that I *do* like. We know it when we see it, we can feel it, but to describe it is more elusive.

I know I like Lisa Russo's blog. I like her candid and chatty style. I love the warmth of her photos, the interaction between her camera/her/her subjects. Her blog gives me the feeling that if she lived near me, we'd get together and have a glass of wine, and have a lot to chit chat about. Make sure you go past the first few posts. I think you will enjoy this one...its not your everyday run of the mill photography blog. This blog just feels different. Its tough to describe...see if you feel it too. I don't know if its because its obvious how much he loves photography in general, from kids, to foodie shoots, to engagements, etc or what...but Laurence has some great vibrant stuff going on here, and its well worth checking out. I've "known" Cheryl online for years. She truly seems to be living the charmed life, I tell you. She's gorgeous, has a hottie husband, adorable kids, loads of clients whom she takes fabulous photos of, editorial assignments and magazine work galore, and she is running this awesome workshop called "The Secret Workshop" which has received rave reviews. Its enough to make you almost hate her!

Except that she also seems to be one of the nicest, kindest, most down to earth people around. Oh yeah, and she has been endowed with this great talent for photography. Ritz Rivera works out of Miami FL, and she has a lovely, clean fresh style. She also has been featuring quite a few maternities... and I have to say for the women readers of my blog, the photos of her most recent maternity on her blog are well worth studying to improve your photographic skills. It wouldn't be because of anything else... nope. Just studying Ritz's lovely camera work, especially on that last image where Dad is shirtless.

Oops, did I say that outloud?

Sorry to have missed a day...

I will have #17 up soon... I had a very busy day yesterday, deliveries, my three kids, etc and a sad day too. Had to go last night to a wake for a past client of mine, an amazing wonderful guy. I meant to post after I got home, but decided to just be with my husband instead. Hug those you love... life is too short.

I've found Carolyn, who proves that you can shoot both kids and weddings, do a stunning job with both, and have a lovely variety of skin tones in your galleries! Yippee!

Marci is one of those photographers who can do it all. She does such beautiful work with everyone from the wee ones on up. But...her work with High School Seniors is beyond compare.

I stumbled across Anna's site this morning while looking for someone new and different to feature. I love that she photographs photographers families so often... makes is fun to see people on her blog that I "know" from online. Her style is very different, it has almost a voyeuristic feel to it, but in a good way, if that makes *any* kind of sense. She also does a lot of dogs, and seems to enjoy the heck out of her job. They both have had their own successful photography businesses for several years, but now are joining up in 2008 to concentrate on their littlest clients, together. #11 Jim Fuglestad: Slices of Life

Jim is a friend of mine here in Minneapolis, used to be my neighbor about a block away until a fairly recent move, and also happens to be a very talented photographer. Now many would think I'm a little crazy to promote other local photographers, but I feel like there is enough clients to go around! :) I especially love Jim's outdoor winter work, and his new "is this you" feature.

Blair does such beautiful work... I am looking forward to her blog becoming more lively *SOON* as she returns from maternity leave after the birth of her beautiful daughter.

Blair is one of my favorite studio photographers, so good with "fake light" as I like to call it, lol. :)

Wanted to feature a slightly different photographer: Joey Lawrence. His work is nearly the polar opposite to any I have featured on here yet, and to top it off, if I recall correctly, he is 17 years old. (Maybe he is 18 now... not sure, but when I first stumbled onto his website, he was 17) Anyway, his blog is not too heavy on photos, but fun to read anyway. You can find it here. But what some of you might *not* know is how funny, vibrant and nice she is too! I almost hesitate to post about this photo blog. To all my photography friends: Forget everything you know about marketing, logos, fluff, websites, and anything remotely related to those. Cynthia is about photography. Soul stirring, life as art, art that inspires, beauty captured one frame at a time by her film camera. Don't click on her blog unless you have the time to devote to really reading and absorbing the beauty. It will change you. I've been reading it on and off for years, and every time I come back to her blog, I remember why I picked up a camera in the first place. *Sigh* She is a true artist. I first "met" Mare from Marmalade online about three years ago (on ILP.) I've always admired her photography and the ethereal quality of her work. It has a warmth and glow that is really special.
